Visitors to Yreka definitely need to visit the historic district located on West Miner Street and 3rd Street. West Miner Street contains numerous historic buildings that begin on South Main Street (Hwy 3) and continue west to South Oregon Street. A few of these buildings were built in the 1850s just after the California Gold Rush. Many have survived the great fire of 1871 that burned down a great portion of West Miner Street and a few have been host to famous celebrities and politicians over the decades.
The historic district along 3rd street contains mainly residences that have been home to the movers and shakers of Yreka in its early years and have survived the many ups and downs in this township known as 'The Golden City'.
The following links below are to the numerous buildings and structures that make up the historic district on West Miner St (and eventually 3rd Street). Every historical building containing a historical marker on W. Miner Street has been waymarked. I am in the process of waymarking a few of the residences on 3rd Street and when I get them finished, I'll provide links to them on this page as well. The Siskiyou County Historical Society has worked with numerous homeowners throughout this historic district as well as in neighborhoods outside the district to hang placards in front of homes that have historical significance. These placards contain the name of the first homeowner and the construction year of the residence and are distinguishable with the dark brown metal and white type. Look for them, they are in front of houses all over town!
My coordinates will place you directly on the corner of West Miner and 3rd Streets, the heart of the historic district. A good place to start your historical journey though, would be to begin at the intersection of S Main Street (Hwy 3) and West Miner Street and work your way west along Miner Street. Coincidentally, S Main Street (Hwy 3) was once Pacific Highway 99 and was the ONLY passageway for northbound/southbound motorists through the area. Once Interstate-5 was constructed in the early 1960s nearby, motorists didn't have to travel through downtown anymore and the hustle and bustle of activity downtown decreased drastically.

Note: The above table is a work in progress as waymarks have not yet been created for all contributing buildings and sites in the district. If you create a new "contributing" waymark in the district, let me know and I'll add the link to the table above. Thank you.
