Located along the southern portion of 3rd Street is the Dennis Merrick House. I could find no pertinent information regarding the person or history behind this home other than a few facts. He and his wife had a daughter in 1867 and later a son in 1877, the same year this house was constructed. Merrick was a member of the local I.O.O.F Lodge and is interred at Evergreen Cemetery in Yreka.

The Merrick home looks to be in average condition and in need of some painting. It is located next to a parking lot. There is a website maintained by the Yreka Historic Preservation body that highlights many of the historic homes of the community and the Dennis Merrick House is one of the residences listed on the virtual tour here. It should also be noted that every historic home along Third Street as well as other residential streets in Yreka have a small brown placard that hangs in front of the house containing the year of construction and the name of the original owner in white letters. Look for them!

Finally, the link to the PDF document nomination form to nps.gov that includes a map of the blocks of businesses and residences this residence falls within can be accessed here.
