Quick Description: Most of the retail left downtown (which isn’t much) has found a home in this two-block, glass-enclosed shopping mall beneath the city’s skyscrapers. Stores tend towards the low-end, but the food court has some gems.

Long Description:The Shops at Houston Center, originally planned as the retail nexus
for a huge, 75-acre 'city-within-a-city' is easily accessible from
the skywalk and tunnel systems, but street level entry is a little
more difficult to find. There’s your typical mall stores, like Gap
and Footlocker, a couple of galleries and souvenir stores (think
armadillo trinkets), and a two-floor food court. It makes for a
nice, air-conditioned escape from the streets on a sweltering day.
The best thing to do here is grab some quick food (like
dumplings) from, say, Doozo Dumplings and Noodles, and take
it outside on the balconies. The Four Seasons Hotel is adjacent,
and the mall's parking garage (entrance on Austin Street) is
relatively cheap for two hours.
Since the mall is downtown, this is a great place to hit the day
after Thanksgiving. All the bargains and none of the lines.
