A sculpture of Siegfried is part of the Bismarck National Memorial in Berlin.

The sculptures surrounding the Bismarck-Statue are supposed to highlight Bismarck's virtues. In this statue, Siegfried forges the sword with which Bismarck defeated Germany's enemies.

Siegfried (or Sigurd in Nordic) is the ultimate Germanic folk hero. From the Edda to Richard Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung, his story has been told over and over again. Being compared to Siegfried is the highest honor a German can receive.

The Bismarck National Memorial was created in 1901 to honor Otto Fürst von Bismarck as the Founding Father of the German Empire. For an extensive description of the entire monument see our waymark.
