Kämpfende Amazone (German for Fighting Amazon), also called Amazone zu Pferde (German for Amazon on Horseback) is a bronze statue created by German sculptor August Kiß
The statue, weighing 6,000 lb, was manufactured by the Hermann Gladenbeck Foundry and placed on the eastern side of the stairway leading to the Old Museum in 1861.
The statue depicts an Amazon from Greek mythology fighting a panther which is attacking the horse from the front.
Another equestrian statue on the western side of the stairs is called Lionfighter. |
