This telephone box was painted Gold to celebrate the Manx cyclists winning a Gold Medal at the Games of the XXX Olympiad held in London in 2012.
This telephone box was painted gold as a celebration of Peter Kennaugh's gold medal win at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Peter was born in Onchan. The telephone box was still painted gold in December 2018 at the time of posting.
On 3 August 2012 Peter alongside Ed Clancy, Geraint Thomas, Steven Burke, the Team GB pursuit team, took the Gold Medal at the Summer Olympics in a time of 3:51.659, shatterring their own world record that they had set in qualifying.
Peter was the first Manxman to win an Olympic gold since 1912.
