Altes Museum (German for Old Museum) in the German capital is considered one the most distinguished buildings in Neoclassicism. It was designed by one of the most prominent German architect, Karl Friedrich Schinkel. It was built between 1823 and 1830 and is often regarded the crown achievement of Schinkel's career.

The museum hosts parts of Berlin's distinguished Antiques Collection, one of the world's largest and most important collections of classical art and archaeological artifacts from the ancient Greek, Roman, Etruscan and Cypriot civilizations.

The collection is so large that it takes two museums to display it. Check out our waymarks around the other one, the Pergamon Museum to see larger parts of the collection.
