The Pergamon Museum is the largest of the five museums located on Berlin's Museum Island.

It was originally built to house the Pergamon Altar. This monumental building, dating back to 170 BC once crowned the Acropolis of the ancient city of Pergamon. It was excavated between 1878 and 1886 and shipped to Germany in 1901.

Pergamon Altar North Frieze

The Altar is surrounded by a giant frieze, depicting the battle between Gods and Titans. The Pergamon Altar and the frieze are not the only spectacular pieces in the Museum.

Other amazing exhibits are the Market Gate of Miletus (100 AD)
and the Ishtar Gate of Babylon (600 BC)
