Church dates from the 12th century. There was a Saxon place of worship here and some of the stones fron this time are incorporated in the building. The building was completed in 1495 with remodelling etc. at later dates. Churchyard is extensive and has a monument to the twenty six children killed in the Huskar Mine disaster of the 4th July 1838. They were drowned when the workings were flooded by a severe rainstorm. A memorial stained glass window was installed in the St. James' Chapel in 2010.

The church web site is comprhensive and includes times of opening low down on the home page-
