Built in 1880, this historic brick building sits on a lot used previously by James Sutton as a drug store. By 1871, the business known as "City Drug Store" was purchased by C.W. Kahler and became known as Kahler Brothers Drug Store. Robert Kahler, who ran the drug store, and his brother C.W. (who operated a law firm in building on an adjacent lot to the north), came to Jacksonville from Ohio in 1852. In 1880, the previous wooden building was torn down and replaced with the current brick structure.
This building was still used as a drug store into the 1980s. Today, a gift shop operates at this site.
Additional information about this structure can be found on the State of Oregon Inventory of Historic Properties form.
