Johnstown City Hall was constructed in 1900, eleven years after the tragic 'Flood of 1889', that killed hundreds when the South Fork Dam, 14 miles above here breeched, killing hundreds in the event. The city hall was constructed and survived two other floods (1936 and 1977) in a city that with the system constructed during the Great Depression that claimed to be "Flood Free". City Hall is pretty much the same, with only a small addition on one side to accommodate more offices.
