Just installed in the spring of 2009, this may be Korea's only funicular. It is short, only 63m and has a capacity of 20 people. This bypasses long steep stairs leading from the street up the base of the mountain to the base station of the Namsan Cable Car. Though one can hike the entire distance to the top of Namsan, the cable car is by far the most popular option. There is access by a paved road coming up from the east side of the mountain to the cable car, but if one is walking from Myeongdong Subway Station, this is the best route.
There is no charge for this funicular, and it is totally automated. It is open 9:00 a.m. to midnight but there is no indication of seasons that this is operational.
The coordinates were recorded at the ground level entry.
