The Namsan Cable Car was built in 1962 as the first public aerial lift system in Korea, although the Tower was not opened to the public until 1980. Located in the huge Namsan Park in the heart of Seoul, Korea, the cable car ascends 605 meters, nearly 2,000 feet, to the Seoul N'Tower which affords spectacular panoramic views of the city. There is a restaurant, gift shops, and other vendors at the tower. There is an additional fee of 6,000 won to to up to the tower's observaton deck.
In ancient times this mountain was a look-out point with a sophisticated system of fire and smoke signals. This historic site has been excavated and restored with vistas to the north.
This is a popular tourist destination and the lines are long on weekends, so plan on an hour's wait to go up, and maybe half that long to descend. For the athletic people, there are also stairs, but it is a long, steep climb.
