The building, located along the edge of the Main Street/Market Square Historic District, was designed by architect William Ward Watkin in 1932. Watkin came to Houston to head the Rice Institute’s Architecture Department from 1912 until 1952. He also designed the Ritz Theater (now the Majestic Metro).
