"If it was in Gothic Europe when the heraldic representation of the kingdom of Galicia spread through numerous armoriales, it was in the Renaissance (15th century) when it acquired a certain uniformity. The first representations of the coat of arms within Galician territory also date from this century, where the number of chalices in the blazon reached up to five, as is the case of the coat of arms of the kingdom that was found on the gates of the medieval city of Betanzos. This exceptional number of chalices was also represented on the Renaissance door of the town of Viveiro, ordered to be built by Emperor Charles V in 1548. However, from the end of the 15th century the number of chalices began to be standardized in a single one, maintaining the blue background and gold color in the chalice, which had been represented since the 13th century."
