With a surface area of 207 square miles, Lake Constance (or Bodensee in German) is the third largest fresh water lake in Western and Central Europe. Bordering three alpine countries, it is Germany's and Austria's largest lake and the second largest lake in Switzerland.

The lake was formed by the Rhine Glacier during the last ice age, about 11.700 years ago.

Today, the lake is a prominent tourist destinations and a number of ferries connect the ports along the shore and on the islands in the lake.

Our pictures were taken from the Lookout Tower at the breakwater of Friedrichshafen harbor, the largest port on the German side of the lake.
