The Baker Catholic Diocese was established in 1903 and the cathedral was built in 1905. Two years later, the Catholic Knights of Pythias order built a lodge two blocks south of the cathedral. The lodge was built of the same local volcanic tuff as the cathedral. Like many lodge halls, the lodge occupied the upper level and the lower floor was leased for businesses.
