Morris*Aubry Architects designed this 662-foot tower in 1983 for First City Bank. The black-and-white horizontal bands and off-set vertical cuts - creating the letter 'F' for First City - makes this one of the most prominent buildings in the skyline.

Part of the Houston Center complex, First City still holds the name and symbol of a bank that doesn’t exist anymore. First City Bank boomed with Houston’s oil and gas industry until things went sour in the late 1980s. By 1992, the 20 banks comprising First City were seized by the Federal Deposit Insurance Company (FDIC), and the bank declared bankruptcy. The founder of the precursor to First City,
City National Bank, also founded Houston’s largest law firm, Vinson & Elkins, still headquartered in the building. Waste Management was also an investment of First City, and is now the building’s primary tenant.
