Groundspeak has a new iPhone application powered by Waymarking! The Historic Places app draws directly from the full Waymarking.com database of historic places, which includes over 44,000 locations worldwide.
The application is perfect for history buffs, travelers, and, of course, waymarkers! Search for historic places near your current location, view a description and photo of each site, and navigate to the location using a simulated compass arrow or map screen.
Historic Places is available now in the iTunes store for only $0.99. View now.

200,000 Waymarks Worldwide!
Since Waymarking.com’s Beta release you dedicated seekers have logged a staggering 200,000 waymarks in 929 categories around the world. We have our all stars, but this achievement was reached mainly through hundreds of waymarkers submitting just a handful of waymarks in their neighborhood, and we thank them enthusiastically.
For a detailed breakdown of all the waymarks submitted to date, visit BruceS's detailed blog and get your stats fix.

There's been a lot of talk of Change lately, and it hasn't escaped our notice here at Waymarking.com. So we felt it appropriate to make a few changes of our own. In particular, one big change is our very own, brand spanking new, search engine.
The search engine has been custom built especially for the site, and is designed to return the most relevant results possible for every keyword search. In addition, you can now search a number of different ways within your own waymarks; like archived, pending approval, and unfinished to name a few.
To learn more, check out the release notes in the discussion forum, or just pop a keyword into the field at the top of the page!

At the end of 2008 we have seen some impressive growth in the number of active listings on the waymarking site.
Waymarking represents almost 18% of all active listings across all three Groundspeak games. We have passed 150,000 listings and have well over 800 unique categories to choose from. The Community Server forum software was restored to proper functionality as well.
2009 promises to be a big year for waymarking with an anticipated new search engine, continued growth and enjoyment for everyone. Keep those cameras clicking!Posted on 12/28/2008 7:05:00 AM by Checkmark

Congratulations go to BruceS today for posting his 5000th waymark! He receives the coveted white ribbon, and is officially the most prolific career waymarker. As of today, he has posted 1100 more waymarks than the 2nd place waymarker.
BruceS was the featured Waymarker at Wayward Waymarking blog a few months back. Also be sure to view his Waymarking profile.

Waymarking has reached an incredible milestone recently: 100,000 Waymarks!
The honor goes to Brentorboxer for her Dartmoor Granite waymark, Prehistoric Complex at Lakehead Hill.
In little more than two years this site has seen amazing growth. What this 100k landmark represents is an immense effort on the part of a dedicated community, who we hope are proud of its accomplishments.
Keep up the great work, and Happy Waymarking!

Those of you who have already had the chance to check out Google's free application know what a powerful tool it can be. It offers a wealth of geographic information and satellite imagery at your fingertips, and makes for some seriously cool entertainment. Adding waymarks to the mix makes it that much more fun and useful.
