Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900 - 1944) was a French poet and pilot. His most famous book was "Le Petit Prince", having been sold more than 140 million times in 180 languages, making it one of the top-selling books worldwide.

The city of Agay dedicated a fountain to Saint-Exupéry in the year 1997. Agay is connected to Saint-Exupéry especially because it was here where he married on April 12, 1931 his wife Consuelo Suncín Sandoval. The civil marriage took place in Nizza, but the ecclesiastical ceremony was held here in Agay. The family of Saint-Exupéry had a country house in Agay back then.

The fountain is made from stone and consists of simple geometric forms: A round basin is deepened in a large square platform. The water flows down from a ball, set up inside the basin. Behind the ball a curved wall shows an illustration of the Prince with waving scarf, stars and a flower. The base of the platform is decorated with Saint-Exupéry's signature, a signage of the monument's designer, and the following excerpt from the book "Le Petit Prince":

"... ne vouz pressez pas, attendez un peu juste sous l'étoile! Si alors un enfant vient à vous, s'il rit, s'il a des cheveux d'or, s'il ne répond pas quand on l'interroge, vous devinerez bien qui il est."
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry ... 1900-1944
translating to:

"... do not hurry, wait just under the star! If then a child comes to you, if he laughs, if he has golden hair, if he does not answer when questioned, you will guess who he is."
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry ... 1900-1944
The monument is located at a parking lot in the East of Agay and framed by two olive trees.
