"CARROLLTON, Ga. - Police said they are close to catching vandals who stole and damaged fiberglass wolves painted by local artists.

'"It's the wolf for the West Georgia Wolves, so it's definitely something the town takes pride in," said Logan Blanton.

"Carrollton is home to the University of West Georgia.

'"Carrollton police, citizens, artists, local businesses came together, made monetary donations to a college scholarship fund," said Carrollton Police Cpl. Edwin Ivey.

"A couple weeks ago, someone broke the wolf off the concrete base in front of City Hall Residents were angry and the culprit confessed.

'"He called and turned himself in," said City Manager Casey Coleman. "(He) told our police department where to find the first one. (He) was very remorseful, still is."

"Locals were outraged when someone stole the wolf up the street from City Hall.

'"It's terrible," said resident Jenny Parker. "They're beautiful. They bring a lot to the city."

"Investigators received a tip and tracked it down. The wolf now lies on the police lockup floor, missing one foot. Investigators said they are on the trail of the suspected culprits, young men who were visiting from out of town.

'"Lot of people the first time thought it was just a bad mistake," said Coleman. "This time, it's like, 'Hang them high.' The attitude is go the limit."
