[EN] On the main face (upper left), in capital letters, is the dedication, framed by laurel branches, "To / soldiers and sailors / from / Charente-Inferior / dead for the fatherland".
On the back (top right), the inscription "memorial built in 1913 / by the French memory / with the contest / of the city of La Rochelle".
On one side reads this tribute to the soldiers (bottom left):
"How much sleep still in their funeral layer
In those distant lands where the sun sets
On deserted sands
And there in the bush there are many others
By fevers defeated soldiers as much as Apostles
That the grass has covered.
On the other side (bottom right) you can read:
"Since the time when Caesar blew the torment
Everywhere you will find sons of the Charente
To avenge their country
And if ever their names escape history
At least this monument will keep the memory".
