While it was 'only' built in 1939, when the rail line was extended into the Sutherland Shire, it has been heritage listed in 1999. It is a bit unusual, in respect that instead of having two side platforms, or an island platform it has a double-length one; situated end-to-end, making it the second longest platform in NSW (after Albury).
The Station is almost 35 km from Central Station, and started to be built from 1936, being completed in 1939, replacing the steam tramway, and opened on 16 December 1939. It was constructed as an electrified rail line, even with electrical signalling. (Info from Wikipedia link)
The Railway Station has, "…a dramatic street façade to Cronulla Street with a unique central clock tower which also houses electric signalling equipment. Cronulla Railway Station is of high technical significance for its ability to demonstrate design and construction techniques of the mid-20th century." [ (

The station is quite wheelchair accessible, tho parking may be another matter.
