La ville
Cabriès (Cabriés en occitan provençal) est une commune française, située dans le département des Bouches-du-Rhône en région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Le nom des habitants de Cabriès n'a jamais été officialisé ; on dit de préférence « les habitants de Cabriès », et les recherches tendent plutôt vers le gentilé « Cabries(s)iens ». La commune de Cabriès regroupe aussi le village de Calas.
Le nom « Cabriès » vient de "cabri" qui signifie "chèvre" en provençal, d'où la chèvre rouge sur le blason, et probablement du monticule rocheux (le « Piton ») sur lequel est établi le village primitif, que seuls les troupeaux caprins peuvent aisément escalader.
La commune de Cabriès se situe dans une zone de collines comprise entre le plateau de l'Arbois au nord-ouest et la chaîne de l'Étoile au sud-est. Le chef-lieu est établi sur un piton à 250 mètres d'altitude, tandis que le reste de la commune est situé entre 120 et 200 mètres. Cette situation fait que le village est très exposé aux vents, et notamment au mistral, ce qui lui donne un climat chaud et sec en été, mais froid en hiver. L'influence de la mer pourtant proche (10 kilomètres à vol d'oiseau) ne s'y fait guère sentir. Aucun cours d'eau n'arrose la commune, si ce n'est un ruisseau nommé Grand Vallat

La mairie
En 1729 la chapelle saint Roch est construite sur cette place mais en 1868, la chapelle est détruite et la mairie prend sa place. Si sa façade est connue, elle ne l'est que par les anciens car la petite place a servie à diverses productions cinématographiques des années 50 tel "La table aux crevé" d'Henri Verneuil avec Fernandel.
C'est un bâtiment de 3 étages avec un balcon où sont dressés des drapeaux en fonction de l'actualité. Tout en haut l'ancien blason de la ville (un "C" dans un blason) est gravé sur la fenêtre la plus haute.
Aujourd'hui, la ville de Cabriès et celle de Calas ont fusionné et cet édifice est la mairie principale, laissant l'ancienne mairie de Calas devenir la mairie annexe. La Poste est venue compléter les services délivrés.

The city
Cabriès (Cabriés in Occitan Provençal) is a French commune, located in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The names of the inhabitants of Cabriès have never been formalized; they are preferably called "the inhabitants of Cabriès", and research tends towards the gentle "Cabries(s)iens". The municipality of Cabriès also includes the village of Calas.
The name "Cabriès" comes from "cabri" which means "goat" in Provençal, hence the red goat on the coat of arms, and probably from the rocky mound (the "Piton") on which the primitive village is built, which only goats can easily climb.
The municipality of Cabriès is located in a hilly area between the Arbois plateau to the northwest and the Etoile chain to the southeast. The capital is located on a peak at an altitude of 250 metres, while the rest of the municipality is located between 120 and 200 metres. This situation makes the village very exposed to winds, especially the mistral, which gives it a hot and dry climate in summer, but cold in winter. The influence of the nearby sea (10 kilometres as the crow flies) is hardly felt there. No watercourses water the commune, except a stream called Grand Vallat

The town hall
In 1729 the chapel of Saint Roch was built on this square but in 1868, the chapel was destroyed and the town hall took its place. If its facade is known, it is only known by the elders because the small square was used for various film productions of the 1950s such as "La table aux crevé" by Henri Verneuil with Fernandel.
It is a 3-storey building with a balcony where flags are displayed according to current events. At the very top, the old city coat of arms (a "C" in a coat of arms) is engraved on the highest window.
Today, the city of Cabriès and the city of Calas have merged and this building is the main town hall, allowing the former town hall of Calas to become the annexed town hall. La Poste has complemented the services provided.
