"Description: Condition: good, unaltered, original site
"The Garfield County Courthouse is a three-story, faced stone block structure with a raised basement. The central portion of the front façade has a "false front" extending approximately twelve feet above the rest of the building's roof line. The front façade is slightly stepped, forming three distinct sections. The main entranceway is raised to the first floor (above ground level) and a flight of stairs approaches the double, metal-framed glass doors. The doors are flanked by a pair of wall mounted light fixtures. Carved stone panels decorate the area above the doors and first-floor windows.

"Significance; 1930; Builder/architect: Reinhart & Donovan Company /Hawk and Parr.
The Garfield County Courthouse is significant because of its role in the community as the center of county government and it is architecturally significant because it was built in cooperation with the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works. Built during the Depression, the structure exhibits the functional design of many public buildings of the mid 1930's, yet it also displays some features of Art Deco styling. The stepped façade and vertical lines are particularly notable." ~ NRHP Nomination Form
