"The idea for the sculpture began in 1992 with Isaiah Williams, a Ponca Indian, who wanted to honor the State's original residents. It was dedicated one year after the 100th anniversary of the Sept. 16, 1893 Cherokee strip land run." ~ Smithsonian

Proper Description: "Full-length male American Indian stands on a slanted four-sided base. Intended as a composite of several plains tribes, the figure wears a buckskin fringed jacket, fringed leggings, a kerchief at his neck, a breastplate and fringed and beaded moccasins. The blanket in which he is wrapped hangs loosely from his shoulders. His long pig-tailed hair hangs down his chest and is topped with an eagle feather. He holds an eagle feather fan in his proper right hand and a peace pipe crooked in his proper left arm." ~ Smithsonian American Art Museum
