30 years of lobbying was required to move from having two ferries crossing the Murray River (that had serviced the community for 70 years), to get this concrete bridge built. 13,000 people attended the opening. The bridge is a composite steel girder and concrete deck bridge, with 6,000 tones of concrete used, and 700 tonnes of steel girders, and 500 tonnes of reinforcing steel also used, and completed at a cost of $17.5 million [some information from a Historical Marker that overlooks the Murray River and the Berri Bridge.]
