"This beautifully carved slate plaque lists those who were allowed to be married, and those who were ‘prohibited', according to the 1662 revision of the book of Common Prayer. Parliament has since changed the law and relaxed many of the former exclusions.

It is believed that the phque was made around the end of the 18th century, perhaps around 1800~1810. It is very similar in style to a small plaque in the Lady Chapel, dated 1810 and made by a John Hoskin.

The Table has an inscription on the reverse of the maker: R. Oliver St. Minver

A Richard Oilver is known ‘of this parish’ born around 1735-1742 , who married Elizabeth Hussey of St Mabyn in 1758, then moved to St Minver.

Another Richard Oliver, born 1791 lived in St Minver in the 1841 Census and was a Mason.

So, it is possible that one of these local men was the sculptor of this plaque."
