Located within the J.N. "Ding" Darling NWR is a gazebo shaped two level observation deck/tower. This tower is located off of the Indigo Trail at the end of the Wildlife Eduction Boardwalk.
This tower is also at the back of the playground for the Sanibel Recreation Center and the Sanibel School. A special locked entrance enables teachers and summer camp staff to take students to the boardwalk for environmental education sessions.
The wildlife management staff have created a series of "true to scale' animal and bird tracks on the boardwalk and the tower area along with real to life "scat" stations. The tracks are melted into the recycled plastic timbers of the boardwalk and stairs to the second level. They are patterned in such a way that they represent how each bird or animal would behave in real life.
