Mammutbaum am Alten Burghof - Siebengebirge, Germany - Sequoioideae Trees on Waymarking.com

Der Drachenfels ist einer der sieben Hauptberggipfel des Siebengebirges etwa 245 Meter oberhalb vom Rhein. Auf dem Gipfel befindet sich eine sagenumwogene Burgruine, die Ziel zahlreicher Touristen ist.

Auf dem Weg von Königswinter zum Drachenfels findet man auf einer Waldlichtung den sogenannten "Alten Burghof", einem Wirtschaftshof aus dem 12. Jahrhundert. Ferdinand Hoffmann, Besitzer des Hofes ab 1854, erweiterte den landwirtschaftlichen Betrieb maßgeblich und gestaltete die Außenanlagen neu. Dazu gehörte auch die Pflanzung eines Riesenmammutbaums direkt am Gebäude im Jahre 1863.

Das Gebäude ist inzwischen leerstehend und verfallen, der Mammutbaum beeindruckt aber bis heute Wanderer und Touristen auf dem Weg zum Drachenfels. 2014 wurde der Baum vermessen und folgende Daten festegestellt:

Stammumfang:	670 cm (130 cm Messhöhe), entspricht 213 cm Durchmesser
Kronendurchmesser:	10 m

The Drachenfels is one of the seven main mountain summits of the Siebengebirge about 245 meters above the River Rhine. At the summit is a fabled castle ruin that is the destination of many tourists.

On the way from Königswinter to the Drachenfels you will find on a clearing the so-called "Alter Burghof", a farmyard from the 12th century. Ferdinand Hoffmann, owner of the farm from 1854, significantly expanded the agricultural work and redesigned the grounds. This included the planting of a giant sequoia tree directly on the building in 1863.

The building is now empty and dilapidated, but the sequoia still impresses hikers and tourists on the way to the Drachenfels. In 2014, the tree was measured and the following data was determined:
