Le « Site des 3 bornes » est l’unique endroit où 3 départements de la Lorraine se touchent.
Le département français est une division territoriale de la France. L'histoire des départements français, depuis la création des départements en 1790, résulte principalement des ajustements successifs du territoire de la France.
La perte de l'Alsace-Lorraine, en 1871, entraîne la création d'un nouveau département, celui de Meurthe-et-Moselle (constituée des parties des départements de Meurthe et de Moselle restées françaises).
Le nouveau découpage du territoire a montré que le département des Vosges, de la Meuse et de la Meurthe-et-Moselle se côtoyaient en un seul et unique point . Le « point géographique » a été matérialisé par 3 bornes dont il en reste une debout.
Ce tripoint existait avant la création des régions en 1956, les départements étaient à cette époque le premier niveau de division nationale

The "Site des 3 bornes" is the only place where 3 departments of Lorraine touch.
The French department is a territorial division of France. The history of the French departments, since the creation of the departments in 1790, results mainly from the successive adjustments of the territory of France.
