Planted as part of our nation's bicentennial celebration, this sycamore tree was planted as part of the bicentennial opening ceremony in Topton, PA. The ceremony was attended by our state senator at that time, the late Michael O'Pake as the tree was placed in its permanent location in front of the Topton Borough Mini Museum.

I had the pleasure of chatting with one of the borough managers as I was snapping pictures of the tree. He seemed to be the one responsible for the maintenance of the tree, mentioning that he had had professional tree trimmers work on it last year. He sadly pointed out to me that the tree is beginning to rot out at its base and he hoped that it would survive for a long time in spite of the potential diseases.

The plaque at the tree's base says simply:
Moon Tree
Dedicated
June 20 1976
So that earth may live
Type of Tree: Sycamore
