[EN] "The Roman Catholic city parish church of Kitzbühel, consecrated to Saint Andrew, is located on the edge of the steeply sloping Lebenberg mountain at Kitzbühel (North Tyrol). It is a late-Gothic-baroque three-aisled building. It once belonged to the mother parish of St. Johann in Tyrol and belongs to the deanery of St. Johann in Tyrol of the archdiocese of Salzburg.
The Kitzbühel parish church was probably first mentioned in a document in the 8th century. At that time there was already a small hall church at the present church location at 762 metres above sea level. A first new building took place in the 12th century, a century later a further, Gothic new building, which existed up to the 15th century. Today's slender tower, about 45 metres high, was erected.
The increase in population in the 15th century made it necessary to build a larger church. The master builder Stefan Krumenauer from Salzburg was commissioned to construct plans for a late-Gothic, three-nave large church. Construction began in 1435 and lasted until 1506. The Gothic tower on the north side was preserved. It was later fitted with a baroque finish and a viewing platform.
From 1661 to 1663 Benedikt Faistenberger and Veit Rabl erected a high, gilded baroque altar depicting St. Mary with Child. In 1739 the painter Simon Benedikt Faistenberger decorated the interior of the church with numerous ceiling frescos. In 1785 the rest of the Gothic church was baroqueised. The ceiling fresco Glorification of the altar sacrament and the murals Mannaregen on the north wall and Eherne Schlange on the south wall were created by Matthias Kirchner in 1786."
