This large live oak tree is located on the southern grounds of the Guadeloupe County Courthouse. The dedication plaque is a white porcelain tile on a four foot metal stand. The text of the plaque reads:
"Stephen F. Austin Oak Tree
To honor Stephen Fuller Austin, the Father of Texas,
the children of Guadeloupe County planted this tree
in the year of his 207th birthday, November 3, 1793.
This Live Oak tree was greminated from the huge Live Oak tree
that stands today on the site where
Stephen F. Austin died January 27, 1836, near West Columbia, Texas.
Bill F. Price, an honorary member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas,
funded the production of the tree,
and the Prince Carl of Solms-Branfels Chapter of the SRT
sponsored the ceremony of planting the Stephen F. Austin Oak Tree
on October 28, 2000
This marker was provided by the Prince Carl of Solms-Branfels (New Braunfels) Chapter of the SRT and
the Abishai Mercer Dickson (Seguin) Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas
and dedicated on the 217th Anniversary of Stephen F. Austin's birth. November 3, 2010. "
