Surrounded by the waves, the Solidor tower was built in the late fourteenth century by the Duke of Brittany to monitor the estuary of the Rance and the nearby town of Saint Malo.
It replaces an older building itself built on the site of a Roman fort. The tower was decommissioned in the 18th century, then transformed into a prison. It now houses a maritime museum

For this 8th edition, we could admire creations in the most varied disciplines: photographer, weaver, feltmaker, potter-modeler, stained glass maker, wood turner, ceramist, jeweler, mosaicist, cutler-blacksmith, glassmaker, etc.
The public vote
"Nearly half of the exhibitors are new," says the new president, Catherine Luce, who succeeded Martine Latimier. We strive to renew the stands, in order to surprise the public. An exhibition brings together works, on the theme Empreinte. At the exit, an urn makes it possible to collect the votes of the visitors. With so many talents, not easy to name his favorite (1).
Even if the show is punctuated with novelties, it does not prevent to find craftsmen who have remained faithful to Solidor for years. This is the case of ceramist Bernard Guérout, based in Plouër-sur-Rance. Or again Marie-Jo Grimaud, who comes every year with her woven clothes. She lives in Roussay, a small village in Maine-et-Loire.
Another faithful appreciated by the public is also Martine Durand-Gasselin. This magician of glass makes her workshop sparkle in Saint-Méloir-des-Ondes. Last year, she was awarded the Tourism Medal. She showed her dexterity working glass. Just like other glassmakers, from Morbihan. Romuald Ribes and Aurélie Le Ficher performed live demonstrations. "

Cernée par les flots, la tour Solidor a été construite à la fin du XIVe siècle par le duc de Bretagne pour surveiller l'estuaire de la Rance et la ville voisine de Saint Malo.
Elle remplace un édifice plus ancien lui même bâti sur l'emplacement d'un fortin romain. La tour a été déclassé au XVIIIe siècle, puis transformée en prison. Elle abrite aujourd'hui un musée maritime.

 "Tour à tour donjon fortifié, prison avant de devenir musée des cap-horniers, la tour Solidor est aussi gardienne des arts. Un peu avant l'été, elle veille sur les centaines de peintres qui déplient leurs chevalets lors de Solidor en peinture, un véritable atelier à ciel ouvert.
Ce week-end, elle a vécu l'autre événement artistique qui vient animer le petit port. Solidor métiers d'art a invité pendant deux jours quarante-huit artisans d'art. Pour cette 8e édition, on a pu admirer des créations dans les disciplines les plus variées : photographe, tisserande, feutrière, potier-modeleur, vitrailliste, tourneur sur bois, céramiste, joaillier, mosaïste, coutelier-forgeron, verrier, etc.
Le vote du public
« Près de la moitié des exposants sont nouveaux, explique la nouvelle présidente, Catherine Luce, qui a succédé à Martine Latimier. Nous nous efforçons de renouveler les stands, afin d'étonner le public. » Une exposition rassemble des oeuvres, sur le thème Empreinte. À la sortie, une urne permet de recueillir les votes des visiteurs. Avec autant de talents, pas facile de désigner son coup de coeur (1).
Même si le salon est jalonné de nouveautés, cela n'empêche pas de retrouver des artisans d'art qui restent fidèles à Solidor depuis des années. C'est le cas du céramiste Bernard Guérout, installé à Plouër-sur-Rance. Ou bien encore de Marie-Jo Grimaud, qui vient chaque année avec ses vêtements tissés. Elle habite Roussay, un petit village du Maine-et-Loire.
Une autre fidèle appréciée du public, c'est aussi Martine Durand-Gasselin. Cette magicienne du verre fait scintiller son atelier à Saint-Méloir-des-Ondes. L'an dernier, elle a d'ailleurs été décorée de la médaille du tourisme. Elle a montré sa dextérité à travailler le verre. Tout comme d'autres verriers, venus du Morbihan. Romuald Ribes et Aurélie Le Ficher ont effectué des démonstrations en direct."
