Robber's Cave State Park is located 5 miles north of Wilburton on Highway 2. The park has lakes, camping, hiking and numerous outdoor activities. On the shores of Lake Carlton north of the Nature Center, an amphitheater was constructed in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). In its day, it must have been a really nice facility, however, it has not been kept up, and is now very deteriorated.
We doubt the amphitheater is still used on any regular basis, however, it is available, and could be used informally by visitors and campers. There are three sets of 10-tier benches which consist of heavy wood planks across concrete supports. Many of the wood planks are missing, and others are poorly weathered. Stone walks lead down to the stage area from the seating. The concrete and wood stage backs up onto the lake. It is worth seeing this amphitheater just to appreciate the heavy stonework done by the CCC.
