The Abbey Saint-Riquier
 "It is founded by the future saint Riquier in 625, on a source, object of a pagan worship very old.The abbey becomes royal in 632 by the protection that grants him Dagobert 1st.
It was Charlemagne in person who entrusted to his son-in-law, Angilbert, the construction of a new and vast abbey with the most noble materials, thus forging a model of religious architecture for the ecclesiastical constructions of the West.
Thanks to a library that has become, over the centuries, one of the most important in Europe, and an active scriptorium especially in the creation and distribution of the tiny caroline, the abbey plays a considerable role in the conservation and transmission of knowledge until the end of the 12th century.
Jewel of Gothic architecture, the Abbey has suffered many destruction due to fire and looting but remains today one of the most beautiful buildings in France, thanks to the work done by Charles d'Aligre, in the 17th century .
The west wing of the buildings, in the extension of the facade of the abbey, is one of the most interesting elements of the Abbey. It retains many elements and decorations of the 18th century. Walls of the seventeenth century, the South wing retains only the ground floor with large windows opening onto the gardens. The East wing has retained its 17th century walls, but the interior layout has been completely modified.
The Royal Abbey has now become Cultural Encounter Center, approved in 2013 by the Minister of Culture, and dedicated to writing in the digital age. For more than thirty years, the walls of the abbey resonate, each summer, with the harmonies of the musicians who came to perform at the Festival of Saint-Riquier - Baie de Somme for the biggest pleasure of the music lovers.  "Elle est fondée par le futur saint Riquier en 625, sur une source, objet d’un culte païen très ancien. L’abbaye devient royale en 632 par la protection que lui accorde Dagobert 1er.
C’est Charlemagne en personne qui confia à son gendre, Angilbert, la construction d’une nouvelle et vaste abbaye avec les matériaux les plus nobles, forgeant ainsi un modèle d'architecture religieuse pour les constructions ecclésiastiques de l’Occident.
Grâce à une bibliothèque devenue, au fil des siècles, l’une des plus importantes d’Europe, et à un scriptorium actif notamment dans la création et la diffusion de la minuscule caroline, l’abbaye joue un rôle considérable dans la conservation et la transmission des savoirs jusqu’à la fin du XIIème siècle.
Joyau de l'architecture gothique, l’Abbaye a connu de nombreuses destructions dûes aux incendies et aux pillages mais reste aujourd'hui l'un des plus beaux édifices de France, notamment grâce aux travaux réalisés par Charles d'Aligre, au XVIIème siècle.
L’aile Ouest des bâtiments, dans le prolongement de la façade de l’abbatiale, constitue un des éléments les plus intéressants de l’Abbaye. Elle conserve de nombreux éléments et décors du XVIIIème siècle. Des murs du XVIIème siècle, l’aile Sud ne conserve que le rez-de-chaussée à grandes baies ouvrant sur les jardins. L’aile Est a conservé ses murs du XVIIème siècle, mais la disposition intérieure a été entièrement modifiée.
L'Abbaye royale est devenue aujourd'hui Centre Culturel de Rencontre, labellisé en 2013 par la Ministre de la Culture, et voué aux écritures à l’ère du numérique. Depuis plus de trente ans, les murs de l'abbatiale résonnent, chaque été, aux harmonies des musiciens venus se produire au Festival de Saint-Riquier - Baie de Somme pour le plus grand plaisir des mélomanes."
