The Nottingham Cattle Market was opened in 1886 on the site of Cattle Market Road and Meadow Lane, primarily for the sale of livestock.
Although cattle and livestock are no longer sold the original and iconic buildings still host a lively market every weekend.
"Gates and gate piers to cattle market. 1886. Made by Charles Smith & Sons of Birmingham. Cast and wrought-iron. 4 square, panelled piers, with moulded capitals and bases. The front panel has the City coat of arms. Cross-gabled caps with bulls' heads below the gables. Between the central piers, a short railing, and on each side, a pair of ornate wrought-iron gates. Beyond, single smaller, simpler piers, linked to the main piers by a short railing. Single wrought-iron side gates."
