From St. Paul's Facebook page (visit link) :
"St. Paul's United Methodist Church in rural Union Township is deemed the second- or third-oldest church in the nation with Methodist roots, depending on which document one examines.

In fact, the church predates the Methodist circuit-rider connection in 1779, and was founded by a Swedish minister, the Rev. William Demour, as Old Forest Church in 1773.

That's a church firmly planted in a lot of American history, rooted in the nation's 18th century rural past.
But like many mainstream Protestant churches, it is struggling to stay vital, find congregants and meet community spiritual needs in new ways."
