"The International Association of Lions Clubs" vereinigt ca. 1,4 Millionen Lions und ca. 45.000 Lions Clubs in 208 Ländern der freien Welt. Es ist die weltweit größte karitative und von der UNO anerkannte sog. Non-Government-Organization (NGO). Sie ist konfessionell und politisch ungebunden.
Als LION hat man die Verpflichtung Menschlichkeit zu üben. Das Ziel besteht darin in der Gemeinschaft der LIONS durch ehrenamtlichen Einsatz und soziale Hilfsprojekte (sog. Activities) Gelder aufzubringen. Damit sollen bedürftige Mitmenschen, vorwiegend in der eigenen Region, unterstützt werden.
Unser Beitrag
Ungeachtet ihrer Sprache, Religion oder politischen Einstellung sind alle LIONS zum Einsatz für Menschen in Not bereit. Ich als LIONS - Mitglied soll versuchen den LIONS - Gedanken im privaten, familiären und beruflichen Umfeld zu leben.
Unsere Hilfe
Wir unterstützen zahlreiche Projekte im Heimatbezirk und in der Region. Ein Teil unserer Spenden geht in die sogenannte Soforthilfe, die Unterstützung von unschuldig in Not geratenen Menschen in der Umgebung. Zusätzlich unterstützen wir die Drogen- und Gewaltprävention, sowie Präventionsprojekte zum Thema sexueller Missbrauch an Kindern. Im Jahr 2016 ging ein Großteil unserer Spenden an das sonderpädagogische Reitzentrum in Reith sowie an die pädagogische Einrichtung "Wald am See". Der LIONS Club Kitzbühel hat 2016 ca. 60.000 € gespendet.
Weltweit hat die LIONS Organisation bis zum Jahr 2017 insgesamt 900 Mio. € für humanitäre Hilfe gespendet. Auf internationaler Ebene konzentriert sich die LIONS Organisation auf vier Großprojekte: "Sight First" mit der Unterstützung und Errichtung von Augenkliniken in der dritten Welt. Als zweites die Reduktion der Kinder- und Jugendsterblichkeit durch gezielte Masern-Impfung. Das Projekt Katastrophenhilfe sowie das Projekt, weltweit die Jugend zu unterstützen.
Jährlich regelmäßig wiederkehrende Aktivitäten sind der weltweite LIONS Jugendaustausch, Friedensplakat-Wettbewerbe, Nachhaltigkeitspreise, die Förderung von Jugendlichen sowie diverse LIONS Musikpreise.

Als die weltweit größte gemeinnützige Club Organisation betreibt der "Lions Club International" eine Stiftung, mit deren Hilfe weltweit in Form internationaler Projekte Menschen in allen Teilen der Welt geholfen wird.
Zum Beispiel wurden seit 2013 über 30 Millionen US$ von Lions International zusammen mit der Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation ausgegeben, um Kinder vor Masern zu impfen. Täglich sterben weltweit 430 Menschen an Masern. Bis 2020 hoffen wir mehr als 700 Millionen Kinder in 49 Ländern gegen Masern und Röteln zu impfen. Die Maser-Röteln Impfung kostet nur 50 US-Cent pro Dosis.
Bereits seit 2011 wurden im Rahmen von "Sight First" insgesamt 415 Millionen US$ von Lions International zur Bekämpfung von Blindheit ausgegeben. Zusammen mit der Weltgesundheitsorganisation WHO konnte dadurch die Sehbehinderung von 26 Millionen Menschen geheilt werden."

"The International Association of Lions Clubs brings together approximately 1.4 million Lions and approximately 45,000 Lions clubs in 208 countries around the world. It is the world's largest charitable non-governmental organization (NGO) recognized by the United Nations. It is denominationally and politically independent.
As LION one has the obligation to practice humanity. The aim is to raise money in the community of LIONS through voluntary work and social aid projects (so-called activities). This should support people in need, mainly in their own region.
Our contribution
Regardless of their language, religion or political attitude, all LIONS are ready to serve people in need. As a LIONS member, I should try to live the LIONS idea in my private, family and professional environment.
Our help
We support numerous projects in our home district and in the region. A part of our donations goes to the so-called emergency aid, the support of innocent people in need in the surrounding area. In addition, we support the prevention of drugs and violence, as well as prevention projects on the subject of sexual abuse of children. In 2016, a large part of our donations went to the special educational riding centre in Reith and to the educational institution "Wald am See". The LIONS Club Kitzbühel donated around € 60,000 in 2016.
Worldwide, the LIONS organisation has donated a total of € 900 million for humanitarian aid until 2017. At the international level, the LIONS organisation is concentrating on four major projects: "Sight First" with the support and establishment of eye clinics in the Third World. Secondly, the reduction of child and youth mortality through targeted measles vaccination. The disaster relief project and the project to support young people worldwide.
Regular annual activities include the worldwide LIONS youth exchange, peace poster competitions, sustainability awards, youth development and various LIONS music awards.
