"39. 516 Court Street, 1882. Though historically separate businesses, the buildings at 512, 514
and 516 Court Street were constructed at the same time and have a unified design to the
upper stories. This 2+ story building has a faux mansard covered in gray and green slate.
The mansard area has round arched dormers with louvered vents. 516 has three
segmental windows with heavy keystones. The window openings have been filled in with
wood siding. A corrugated metal panel covers the transom area and a flat canopy
stretches across the storefront. The storefront is modern, though it retains traditional
storefront pattern. [C]
This building originally housed a post office, jewelry store and milliner's shop. By 1917, it
housed a music store and photography studio." ~ NRHP Nomination form
"Architectural Style: French Second Empire
Foundation: probably stone
Wall construction: brick
Contractor: Henry Bauer
Changes: The first-floor has been altered and is treated variously with either brick or corrugated aluminum siding
Important features: The façade begins with a grey and greenish slate area with round arched louvered vents; it resembles a mansard roof; unfortunately tar from a re-roofing has been dripped on some of the shingles on the left (N) side. The second-story is painted brick and has ten segmental arch windows with protruding keystones. Some of the bricks have been damaged where signs apparently were once attached.
"In 1890, ... 516 was a
jewelry store, and a photography studio on the second floor. In 1884, ...
516 was the post office, and a jewelry store on the first floor and a
milliner's shop on the second floor." ~ Historic Inventory of Fulton, MO, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, PDF page 92
