Baldy Lake is a small sub-alpine lake in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia. Nestled in the Rocky Mountains, the lake can be reached by a moderate hike of approximately 5.5 kilometers (each way) which includes an elevation change of over 1000 feet. Most of the elevation change happens in the first 1.5 kilometers of the trail.
The trail is seldom used but is well maintained by the Kootenay Backcountry Horsemen. Expect to encounter snow on the trail - possibly too much snow if you visit early in the year (see online logs for BALDY LAKE REVEALED geocache. We visited the lake in early July and did encounter snow along the trail but it was passable.
The lake is rather shallow, which may be the reason it wasn't ice cold when we visited, and we enjoyed a quick swim in the lake.
There are two campsites on the lake. Neither are marked but both are obvious (complete with latrines).
