Budova byla postavena roku 1792 na severním okraji zámeckého parku Veltrusy na pudorysu ve tvaru písmene L. Sloužila jako funkcní mlýn a zároven jako salonek k odpocinku hrabecí rodiny Chotku pri vycházkách nebo vyjíždkách. Ve spodní cásti západního krídla v té dobe pracovaly tri mlecí stroje. Po zmene majitele byla roku 1840 budova rozšírena na podkovovitý pudorys. Na nádvorním prucelí byla zrízena pavlac v neo-gotizujícím slohu a nádvorí bylo z jihovýchodu uzavreno zdí s branou. Budova prošla nekolika stavebními i funkcními promenami. Také dvakrát vyhorela, podruhé v roce 1929. Po odstranení mlýnského zarízení (koncem 19. století) sloužil Cervený mlýn jako penzion a výletní restaurace. Za druhé svetové války zde byla rezidence nemeckých Hitlerjugend a po roce 1948 byl upraven na domov duchodcu. Dnes je zde Centrum sociálních služeb, které vlastní Stredoceský kraj.

The building was built in 1792 in the northern edge of the Veltrusy Castle Park at an L-shaped ground plan. It served as a functional mill and also as a lounge for resting the count Chotek family during walks or excursions. In the lower part of the west wing at that time three milling machines worked. Upon the change of the owner, the building was extended to a horseshoe ground plan in 1840. In the courtyard facade, a neo-gothic gallery was built, and the courtyard was closed from the southeast by a wall with a gate. The building has undergone several building and functional changes. It also burned twice, for the second time in 1929. After the removal of the mill facilities (at the end of the 19th century), Red Mill served as a guesthouse and a cruise restaurant. During World War II, there was the residence of german Hitlerjugend and after 1948 it was adapted to the retirement home. At present there is a Center for Social Services, which owns the Central Bohemian Region.
