In Plymouth, along the shore of Massachusetts Bay, is Pilgrim Station, a nuclear power plant not far from the original landing of the puritans and others in 1620.

The plant is located at the base of Pine Hills - a small ridge extending south to north, and is also located at the shoreline to Massachusetts Bay. The entrances - three of them - are from Rocky Hill Road. You can pass by these entrances, but there are signs all along the road stating that you can't park. The plant can be glimpsed from the entrances, but not well.

The best place to catch a glimpse of the nuclear power plant is from Manomet Point, which is about 2.3 miles southeast of the plant. From Route 3A, take White Horse Beach Road and continue driving it to the end where there are a limited number of parking spaces available for a limited time (15 minutes max). That should be enough time to see the plant.

The plant looks like a large squarish box in neutral brown-grey colors, with a smaller box shape. There is a communications tower by the plant and another a distance behind it.

The plant is currently owned by Entergy Nuclear.

The plant is a water boiler system that, when in full power, generates 680 mWatts, enough to power over 600,000 homes.

The plant is the only operating nuclear power plant in Massachusetts. The next nearest station is in Seabrook, New Hampshire. However, the company has decided that due to current economic conditions and expected required upgrades necessary to operate, the plant would be closed on June 1, 2019.
