The station building is of type 1881 and has been standing there since 1888. In April 2010 it became known that there was a risk of collapse. A passerby saw the roof drop down and informed the fire department. He deposited the building and preventively removed two chimneys.
The dilapidated station building, which has been a thorn in the eyes of the local population for years, is given a new purpose. The city of Leuven is going to renovate the ruin alongside the railway, together with the non-profit organizations Dialogue and Spit, into an eco-friendly office with office space, a restaurant and a meeting room for associations and local residents.
Planned completion of the renewed building is planned for 2018.
