EN The primitive chapel of Saint Damase was probably built at the end of the 12th century. It is said to have been built in honour of Pope Saint-Damase, the first successor of Pope Libere who exercised his pontificate from 366 to 384.
The Ginasservois would have built this chapel in memory of a short stay carried out by Saint Damase on their commune, at the time of a voyage in Spain from which it was native although born in Rome.
This chapel was maintained until the time of the Templars and abandoned in 1626. Restored in 1879, the date is inscribed on its pediment. Then it is abandoned again and looted.
It is in 1997, date of the works, that the Municipality and an Association of volunteers carried out its restoration.
On its rotunda square a grid protects the entrance door, a masterpiece of a Ginasservois craftsman: Mr Villermet, who also made all the interior woodwork.
Eight buttresses, four on each side give it a feeling of solidity, two windows face each other covered with stained-glass windows made by : Mariann Pederssen known in our association and resident of Ginasservis.
