In Newbury, in the First Parish Burial Ground, is this grave marker for Moses Short, who was a soldier in the American Revolutionary War, as stated by the marker.

The cemetery is located north of the Newbury Green, along High Street, and across the street from the First Parish Church. It is also about a half mile south of the town boundary with Newburyport. Park in the church parking lot.

The grave is in the middle, toward the south part of the cemetery. It is pretty visible.

The marker is a grey granite marker, with the following text on the north side:

"1760 Moses Short 1841
Soldier of the American Revolution
His Wife
1786 Abigail Ilsley 1875
Their Daughters
1829 Ruth I. Short 1927
1830 Abigail Short 1903"

On the other side of the grave is simply the family name, "Short"

There is an SAR marker at the base of the grave marker. Also, by the separate marker for each daughter, there is a "Real Daughter" marker set by the Daughters of the American Revolution.

An article about Moses was found. It related that he attended a dinner celebrating the 50th anniversary of the war and offered a toast: “The Tree of Liberty watered by the blood of the Revolution may our children suffer no canker worms to injure its sacred leaves.” It also stated that a descendant fought in the American Civil War and lost his life at the battle of Oak Grove.
