Auchenblae is a small village nestling at the foot of the rolling hills of the eastern Grampians in southern Aberdeenshire, formerly the county of Kincardineshire. It lies at the northern end of the fertile Howe of the Mearns and features the historic remains of St. Palladius Chapel in the grounds of Fordoun Church. Also in the grounds of the church is a full graveyard, which necessitated a new cemetery which lies outside the village to the west.
Reached along a narrow minor road, the rectangular plot is orientated south-west to north-east lying at the eastern foot of the sprawling, wooded Strathfinella Hill. A lay-by is situated at the entrance to the east.
