Centred on downtown Calgary, the CTrain has two main lines, east-west and north-south. On the south line, Anderson Station is the fifth from last station before the south end of the city. Though the station is at 109th Avenue South, it is named for Anderson Road, which is the nearest major road, a few blocks south. In the original 1975 plan for the CTrain, Anderson Station was the southern terminus. An indication of the growth of Calgary is that the terminal station, Somerset-Bridlewood, is now almost four miles south.

The south line runs along the west side of MacLeod Trail, which is also Highway 2A, the major entrance to south Calgary west of Highway 2, which in Calgary is Deerfoot Trail. Deerfoot is a freeway from one end of Calgary to the other, while Macleod Trail is not, making it a much slower route through town.

While some CTrain stations afford access in one direction only, most of the southern ones, including Anderson Station, render access to both north and south bound trains. There are a lot of trains - I was at the station for possibly three minutes and during that time a northbound and a southbound train passed through.

Calgary's CTrain has been running since May 25, 1981 and has expanded with the city since that time. While it received very good patronage when first operational, as the city expanded to its present population of 1.3 million, the increase in traffic has encouraged more and more people to opt for the CTrain. As a result, it carries a lot of riders each day.
