With the stationing of Roman troops on the Neckar-Odenwald line, an easy and quickly built fort in wood and earth was raised in the years before 90 B.C. on the left bank of the Neckar on the Altenburg hill.
Around 100 B.C., the earthen fort was replaced with a stone fort.
Today, there is nothing remaining of this fort to be seen. The remains have been built over by a large complex of buildings which were originally a casern for the cavalry. The complex has been reconverted for a number of different commercial purposes.
